Speaking of fathers who wanted to have their cake and eat it, too.....

The saddest part of the description is that which describes certain areas of old China where the Farmers --- who wanted to sell off their daughters at a higher price (via the dowry system) --- not only crushed the bones of their little daughters feet (for various reasons discussed at the FOOT BINDING 101 link given at the bottom of this caption), but also forced them to work in that condition in the fields as "family labor" until they could marry them off !

".... kneeling.... crawling.... sitting ... hitching along the ground.... carried in wheelbarrows.... and never going more than a mile from their home in all their lives....."

What the hell kind of culture is THAT ?????

On the other hand, since Okinawa_Soba is well-known for his balanced captions (?) in all fairness I give a report about another woman with bound feet who proved herself a hearty soul in spite of her un-natural deformities :

Sex and the City is a multiple Emmy Award, Golden Globe awardâ€"winning popular American cable television program. The original run of the show was broadcast on HBO from 1998 until 2004, for a total of six seasons.

Set in New York City, the show focuses on four women, three in their mid-thirties, and one in her forties.
